CRASH victim Tammy Boorer's seriously ill mother was among loved ones who joined a hospital bedside vigil before making the heart-rending decision to switch off life support.
Rosie Boyce, herself suffering from a medical condition requiring high-level care and constant use of an oxygen tank, made a desperate mercy dash to her pregnant daughter Tammy, whose catastrophic injuries also cost the life of her unborn child.
Tammy and her husband Nathan, both 28, were severely injured when their car collided head-on with another car driving the wrong way, and were then rear-ended by a truck, on the Bruce Highway on the Sunshine Coast last Wednesday.
In a tragic foretelling of her own fate, the Ipswich mother-of-two in 2011 joined those on Facebook calling for "a law protecting unborn babies'' by making drunk drivers responsible "if a pregnant woman is involved in a car accident ... and her unborn baby dies''.
The 54-year-old driver of the other car, who along with his passenger, 50, was known to police, died instantly.
Nathan remained in a stable but critical condition in the Royal Brisbane Hospital yesterday.
Their children, aged 9 and 3, survived the crash with minor injuries and are in the care of their grandparents.
Central Ipswich Church pastor Scott Muir said the couple were "much-loved'' members of their church community, which was now rallying around Nathan and his family after Tammy's passing at 11.30pm on Friday.
"There's a lot of sadness, grief, over their loss and especially for the sake of their children,'' he said.
Reverend Muir said Tammy would be remembered for her "beautiful nature''.
His church has set up a bank account for donations to the family, and is helping them with "some of their immediate needs''.
